An After Thought

So, I was thinking about it and I noticed that my Blog does not have my email address on it. I was thinking that for those of you who do check my Blog and want to email me but do not have my address, it would be a good idea if I posted it for those who want it. Also, I want to increase my email address book so that if I decide to send bulk updates via email, I can make sure those of you want the info can have it. So, if you would not mind, and if you think I do not have your current email address, please email it to me. I would love to be able to keep in contact with you all too, not just you with me:)

You all are so great and dear to me!! Thank you for every ounce of support in every way it is given, I am humbled beyond reason at y'alls graciousness and it is an example to me. It spurs me on to be more of the kind of friend to you that you have been to me!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Chicago and a Surprise!

I was able to go to Chicago for about five days this past week. My main reason for going was to participate in the commencement cermony for graduation from Moody. I never thought I would graduate college, so being able to be apart of commencement was a huge testimony of God's grace in my life. Completing something like Moody was and is a huge accomplishment to the glory of God!

While I was in Chicago I was able to see a ton of great friends! To be honest, graduation to me was just an excuse to go to Chicago and have some final visits with dear friends before I go to Africa. Here are some pictures of some of those people whom I was able to spend time; including my little sister (from the Big Bro/Big Sis Program) Shevon and her family. It had been at least 2 and a half years since I had seen them! It was fabulous!

While getting to see all my friends and family who came out for my cousins' and my graduation (three of us "Deckers" graduated from Moody this year), I would have to say that by far the highlight of my trip was when my Dad flew out and surprised me for graduation! This might not sound like a big deal to some of you but I must tell you, the man has not flown in 15 years!! It was such a special treat for him to love me enough to show it in this way. And, Dad, if you are reading this, I hope you know how special your short 36 hour stay in Chicago was to me! Thank You!!

Here are some pics of us being tourists for a day!

The Big 0-3!

I went to Seattle this weekend to celebrate my nephew's birthday! He turned the big 0-3! I cannot believe how much he is growing and learning, it really blows me away at how smart he is! AND how fun he is!

The weekend was packed full! I got there Thursday night and we had tons of stuff to do to get ready for the big day! Justin (my brother-in-law) spent the whole weekend up to the very last minute (literally) totally re-doing their back deck! Hudson wanted so badly to help, so, he made sure Justin's measurements were correct and hammered some nails in his own piece of wood! I think Christina and Justin were up until at least midnight every night trying to get the deck done...I wouldn't know how late they stayed up 'cause i crashed at like 10:30 every night....i can't roll with the big boys anymore:)

The party was a blast!! Christina and Justin ordered a huge spider man jump house and the kids (as well as the adults) had the time of their life! I decided to leave out the pictures of Hudson in his finest hour deciding that it was too much work to go inside to go to the bathroom so he just dropped his drawers and went on the grass!! Not a care in the world when you are three years old! I have not laughed that hard in a long time!

The Silver Lining

On my way home, after finding out that something had cracked my side-view mirror, I found myself getting LOST on my way back to Bend! Please, do not ask me how i managed to get lost in Oregon, but i did...not to my surprise, however because this is not the first time! Anways, after I got over my frustration of having to back track, i tried to take in the beautiful scenery that i over look all the time! The pictures cannot do it justice, but it was a really breathtaking sight and makes me so thankful to God for His creation and thankful that i got lost so i would take time to enjoy it! Also, part of the silver lining is that i got to visit with an old friend from Moody and it really blessed my heart. I am so thankful for my friends and my family, i truley do not deserve such divinely given people in my life!

So, here are a bunch of pictures. Probably out of order 'cause i am still learning how to use this blog thing. But, enjoy!

Mitumba Pictures

I thought you guys might be interested in seeing what Mitumba looked like. Description of photos:
#1: Picture of Kibera Slum. A nearby slum that is almost identical to Mitumba, just probably three times it's size!
#2: Kids in Mitumba. The trash heap behind them gives you an idea of what the terrain is like. You will usually see chickens and other animals eating the trash and those same animals are the ones that the people eat.
#3: This gives you an idea of how small the houses are in Mitumba. Usually no less than 4 people live in each house.
#4: This picture reminded me of a story one of my friends who has been to Africa told me about. Notice the open back of the child's shirt. My friend had a picture just like this and she reminded me that it is important that when you give your clothes to Goodwill or any place like that, make sure you get is fixed BEFORE you give it away because the people who recieve these clothes usually do not have resources to get them fixed like we do and they are left with broken clothes.
$5: I found this picture on a website of Mitumba. It just broke my heart seeing it...and we complain about not having enough shoes! Something to think about...
